she’s turned out to be better than her Daddy at both). He loves playing in the dirt and as a Clemson Master Gardener, he puts that love to practice by planting vegetable gardens for his family and for mission projects. He coaches Anna Faith’s baseball team and still doesn’t think he’s too old to play church league softball and basketball (although Faith disagrees). He is also an experienced chicken whisperer (listen for more about this in an upcoming sermon).
His passions in ministry are preaching, teaching, worship, evangelism, and missions.
He studied at Lander, Erskine, St. Cyprian’s, the Fuqua School, Duke, Cranmer House, and Clemson, and holds a Bachelor’s degree, two Master’s degrees, and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology. He also holds graduate certificates in Church Leadership and Preaching.
He is an endorsed chaplain through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry and has served as an Army chaplain, a law enforcement chaplain, and as a fire department chaplain.
In the 1990’s, he was twice named one of “48 Outstanding Youth Ministers” in North America. And at this year’s Annual Conference, he will receive the Bishop Joseph B. Bethea Distinguished Service award.
He met his wife Faith when he was appointed as pastor of her church in Bennettsville and she was a member of the PPRC. They later married, although not while she was on PPRC! They have been married 18 years and have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, Anna Faith (8) and Emma Grace (1). They are also the proud parents of a 3 year old Chocolate Lab named Rosabelle who couldn’t sit still long enough to be in the attached photo.
Most of all, he is thankful beyond measure that the Lord called him to ministry and entrusted to him the awesome responsibility of sharing the Good News of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ. He and his family could not be more excited about “coming back home” to Simpsonville, being appointed to such an amazing church, and about the untold possibilities for reaching people with the Gospel and expanding God’s Kingdom in this community and beyond!
